PAOLO CHIASERA
Orti Tintori

5.09.2025 – 6.01.2026

Orti tintori is a site-specific project by artist Paolo Chiasera, conceived for Accademia Carrara. The exhibition brings together contemporary art, nature, and the museum’s heritage through two complementary installations that involve both the museum’s interior spaces and its outdoor garden.

The indoor work, The Gardens of Sardinia, Cyprus, Jerusalem, and Bergamo, is a large-scale oil painting (over 26 meters long) that Chiasera has been presenting in museums since 2014. It acts as a mobile structure, adaptable and expandable, designed to host the museum collections it encounters. With this work, Paolo Chiasera (born in Bologna, 1978) brings a new painted landscape into Accademia Carrara, an immersive stage that draws visitors into a “theater of wonders”. The installation physically incorporates a selection of artworks from the museum’s heritage—pieces usually kept in storage—thereby offering the public a rare opportunity to discover lesser-known artworks from the museum’s collection. Featured artists include Guercino, Jan Brueghel, Carlo Antonio and Ercole Procaccini.

Outside, in the PwC Gardens, the artist presents Orto tintorio di Bergamo, an installation that involves sowing two plant species, historically used to produce pigments for painting.
To symbolically encourage growth, two small bronze sculpture will be buried on site, while two oil-painted banners—created using pigments derived from the same plants—will be displayed in the Gardens
.

Orti tintori marks the beginning of the wider ART AND NATURE project, and opens in parallel with the Landscape Festival, an international event celebrating landscape culture held annually in Bergamo since 2011.
